Facts about Medical Marijuana

Cannabinoid science advancement over the past 16 years have led to a wealth of new opportunities for the development of medical marijuana and medically useful cannabinoid-based drugs. Large amounts of data suggest a variety of uses, particularly for pain relief, antiemesis, and appetite stimulation.

Marijuana for Medical Use Only

For people who suffer from appetite loss , nausea, and severe pain, like those with AIDS or undergoing chemotherapy, medical marijuana and cannabinoid drugs could offer a broad-spectrum relief not found in any other single medication.

Marijuana is not a completely safe substance, it is a powerful drug with a variety of effects. But, the harmful effects from the perspective of medical marijuana use are not the same as the harmful physical effects of drug abuse.

Although marijuana smoke delivers Tetrahydrocannabinol and other cannabinoids to the body, it also delivers some harmful substances, including most of those found in tobacco smoke. Additionally, plants contain a variable mixture of biologically active compounds and so cannot provide a precisely defined drug effect. For these reasons, some reports state that the future of cannabinoid drugs lie not in smoked marijuana but in chemically defined drugs that act on the cannabinoid systems that are a natural component of human physiology. Unfortunately, these drugs have not been developed and made available for medical use yet.

Medical marijuana / cannabis refers to the use of marijuana as a Doctor prescribed therapy to reduce the symtems associated with some medical conditions or to reduce the side effects of some traditional medical treatments.

Medical marijuana is used for a various conditions, including:-

  • Easing nausea and vomiting.
  • Stimulating appetite for chemotherapy and/or AIDS patients.
  • Reducing eye pressure in glaucoma patients.
  • Managing severe and chronic pain for things like arthritis.
  • Treating gastrointestinal illnesses.

Recent research has suggested that some compounds in marijuana may also have beneficial qualities for patients suffering from a variety of other conditions, such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, brain cancer, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, insomnia, and even asthma.
